Peru GOP caucus set for Thursday

PERU — The Peru Republican Party will hold a caucus Thursday to nominate candidates for the November general election.

The caucus will be held at 7 p.m. at the St. Augustine's Parish Center gymnasium on North Main Street (Route 22).

Offices that town Republicans will vote on include two four-year seats for Town Council, one four-year seat for supervisor, one four-year seat for town clerk/tax collector, two four-year seats for town justice and one four-year seat for superintendent of highways.

There is also one vacant Town Council seat to complete the two-year term held by Cortland Forrence, who resigned earlier this year.

The Peru Republican Committee has endorsed several candidates for the open positions, including Peter Glushko for supervisor and Susan Polhemus and Donald McBrayer for the two four-year councilor terms.

The committee has also endorsed Kathleen Flynn for town clerk/tax collector, Dennis Reid and Jack Lawliss for town justice and Mike Farrell for superintendent of highways.

Other announced candidates include Thomas Powers for supervisor and Fred Hoffman for a four-year councilor seat.

Nominations for other candidates will also be accepted during the caucus before the vote.

The general election is Nov. 3.
