Holiday events planned around region


PLATTSBURGH — Memorial Day events are being held today around the North Country.

Here's a look:

CROWN POINT
141st Memorial Day Observance. 9 a.m., solemn tour of town cemeteries; 2 p.m., Memorial Day Parade on Main Street; and 3 p.m., bands perform in park.

ELIZABETHTOWN
Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service. Parade begins at 10 a.m. from Hand Avenue, by the Essex County History Center Museum in Elizabethtown. Memorial service at about 10:30 in the Windsor Park, near Stewart's shop. Included in the parade will be military-service veterans, Boy and Girl Scout troops, fire departments, equestrian groups, classic and antique cars, etc. Sponsored by the American Legion Posts of Elizabethtown and Lewis.

LAKE PLACID
Lake Placid parade. 11 a.m., down Main Street, Lake Placid, end at the American Legion Post 326 Home. Flag ceremonies will be performed.

MALONE
Malone celebration. Parade sponsored by American Legion Post. Lineup at 9:50 a.m. on Brewster Street; parade, 10 a.m. on Main Street to Veterans Memorial Park for remembrance ceremony then continues to Elm Street to legion post for refreshments.

PLATTSBURGH
Plattsburgh Post 20 Memorial Day ceremony. 11 a.m., American Legion Post 20, 162 Quarry Road, Plattsburgh. Followed by a light lunch.

Community Garden Dedication. Noon, Melissa L. Penfield Park, rain or shine. Sponsored by Plattsburgh Community Garden Group, with spiritual leaders from the community, mayor and councilors.

ROUSES POINT
Memorial ceremonies. American Legion Montgomery Post 912, Rouses Point, Coopersville and Point au Fer. Honor Guard ceremony at St. Patrick's at 9 a.m., Maple Hill at 9:20, St. Joseph's cemeteries at 9:40, Samuel de Champlain Quadricentennial event on Point au Fer at 10. Laying of the wreath, 11:15, at the Dodge Memorial Library, Lake Street, followed by a flag-burning ceremony at the American Legion home on Pratt Street. Legionnaires meet at the Post Home at 8:30 a.m.

SAINT REGIS FALLS
Memorial and celebration. Assemble at American Legion Post 322 at 7:15 a.m. Cemetery services in Santa Clara, 8 a.m.; Nicholville, 8:15 a.m., Dickinson Center, 9 a.m.; St. Regis Falls, 10 a.m.; assemble at Legion at 10:30 a.m. for march to bridge; 11 a.m. service at the bandstand followed by concert, free hamburgers and hot dogs; 2 p.m., softball American Legion vs. firefighters at Lemieux Field.

TICONDEROGA
Annual Fort Ticonderoga Ceremony. 11 a.m., with the Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps leading a procession to the fort's American Cemetery for the wreath-laying. Fort staff will read and recite historical passages at the state marker. Fort admission: $15 for adults, $7 for children 7 through 12, and free for those 6 and under.

TUPPER LAKE
Memorial Day commemoration. 11 a.m., Veterans Park on Park Street, Tupper Lake. Includes special tribute to the women from the community who have or are still serving in the military. Members of Tupper Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars will officiate. Tupper Lake High School band will play; firing of volleys and taps will conclude the ceremony.
