PLATTSBURGH — A sewer line clogged with items from a nearby nursing home is being blamed for some flooding in the City of Plattsburgh.
Three basements of homes in the Meadowvale Avenue and Autumn Drive area were flooded recently, angering homeowners.
The cause turned out to be debris that was apparently flushed down the drain at Meadowbrook Nursing Home on Prospect Avenue.
Rubber gloves, washcloths, grease and other debris was found in the system.
The city examined the sewer and water lines in the area with an underground camera and found no problems with the system.
A screen was installed to prevent large items from clogging it up again.
"There have been no problems since we installed the screen," Mayor Donald Kasprzak said. "The city's sewer lines are intact and not the problem."
Public Works Superintendent Mike Brodi said the system is being checked regularly to ensure there are no more clogs.
"Meadowbrook has been put on notice, and hopefully we won't have anymore problems."
Calls to Meadowbrook from the Press-Republican were not returned.
