PLATTSBURGH — Two men were arrested after they allegedly assaulted a Clinton County Sheriff's Department deputy Saturday evening.
The Sheriff's Department reported Leonard L. Martino, 47, of Plattsburgh and his brother, Todd Martino, 38, of Plattsburgh were charged with assault on a police officer, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
The incident occurred after Sheriff's Department personnel responded to an EMS call at about 7 p.m. at a wedding reception held at American Legion Post 20 on Quarry Road in the Town of Plattsburgh.
The Sheriff's Department reported Leonard Martino's wife had a health issue at the wedding and was combative before she was transported to CVPH Medical Center. Martino reportedly wanted to follow her to the hospital, but another guest at the wedding told the deputy Martino was intoxicated and wouldn't listen to requests not to drive.
The deputy approached Martino and asked him if he had a ride. Martino allegedly got in the deputy's face and became combative when the deputy moved his hand from his face.
As the pair struggled, Todd Martino reportedly interfered and helped his brother break free. The deputy allegedly struggled with the brothers on and off, both individually and together.
Additional deputies arrived, followed by New York State Police Troopers. The brothers were eventually taken into custody, which reportedly involved the use of pepper spray.
The Martinos were arraigned before Plattsburgh Town Justice Christina Bezrutczyk and initially held on $2,500 cash bail/$5,000 bond. They have since posted bail and are due to reappear in Town of Plattsburgh Court at a later date.
The Sheriff's Department reported the deputy was treated at CVPH and later released.
