RAY BROOK — A local basketball coach is facing charges for allegedly having sex with and providing alcohol to an underage teenage boy.
Joey Strong, veteran coach of Holy Name School's girls basketball team, was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old boy.
The 35-year-old mother is also accused of giving the teen alcohol during their alleged encounter in Queensbury earlier this month.
The AuSable Forks woman is now facing a felony charge of third-degree rape and misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child.
Investigators said the rape charge was lodged because of the boy's age.
Though the investigation is continuing, police said Saturday they believe the alleged encounter was an isolated incident.
Strong reportedly met the boy through relatives.
The principal for Holy Name, a Catholic elementary school in AuSable Forks, could not be reached for comment Saturday and it was unclear whether Strong is still employed as the girls coach.
Strong could not be reached for comment Saturday and investigators were unsure whether she was still in custody downstate at that time.
