Man charged with raping teen

JAY -- A Peru man has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl.

State Police arrested Timothy J. Crowningshield, 40, of 838 Clintonville Road Thursday, charging him with two counts of second-degree rape, a felony; second-degree criminal sexual act, a felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

The investigation began last Sunday after police received a report of the alleged attack in the Town of Jay.

Crowningshield was arraigned before Jay Town Justice John Dockum and sent to the Essex County Jail for not paying cash bail set at $25,000.

No further information was available Friday.
