Sex-abuse counts lodged against local man

MALONE — An Altona man was charged with sexual abuse and other charges for allegedly touching an 11-year-old girl at Ponderosa Campground and a 14-year-old girl in Chateaugay.

Roland K. Magoon, 42, of 4484 State Route 190, pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Court to first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse, first-degree attempted sexual abuse, two counts of forcible touching and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The seven-count indictment accuses him of having sexual contact with the then-14-year-old during the summer of 2005 in Chateaugay and touching her “sexual or other intimate parts” for his own sexual gratification.

Magoon is also accused of touching the then-11-year-old girl at a campsite at Ponderosa Campground in the Town of Chateaugay in 2005 “for the purpose of gratifying his sexual desire,” the indictment states.

The case was adjourned until a later date, and he was taken to County Jail for lack of $5,000 bail.
