Chateaugay village elections coming up

CHATEAUGAY — The only village elections to be held next month in northern Franklin County are in Chateaugay, which has uncontested races for mayor and trustee.

And the election itself is a little different this year.

Rather than voting being held on a Tuesday, as is tradition, it will be Wednesday, March 18, because of St. Patrick’s Day, said Village Clerk and Treasurer M. Carol Roach.

The polls will be open that day from noon to 9 p.m. at the Village Offices at 8 Iron Ave. in the Village of Chateaugay.

D. Billy Jones is running unopposed for the two-year term of mayor, while incumbent Trustees Charles Cheyne and Francis Boadway are each seeking another two-year term on the Village Board.

Incumbent Mayor Gabriel Lopardo decided not to seek re-election, Roach said.

Chateaugay is the only northern village with spring elections that has any seats open this year, according to Veronica King, Republican commissioner of the Franklin County Board of Elections.

The Village of Brushton and the Village of Burke will have elections next March, she said.

The other villages in Franklin County — Malone, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake — each hold their elections in November.
