Snow drops curtain on area activities

By ANDREA VanVALKENBURG

PLATTSBURGH — Another major snowstorm moved through the North Country Wednesday.

The snow started falling in the early hours of the morning and continued steadily throughout the day.

Schools in Clinton and Essex counties closed because of predictions of three to five inches of snow and warnings that it could turn to sleet and ice later.

As predicted, freezing rain was falling by mid-afternoon.

In Franklin County, some schools closed early, and after-school activities, including sports events, were canceled throughout the region.

The Battle of Plattsburgh Association, History Shoppe and War of 1812 Museum closed at 10 a.m. because of the weather.

A number of organizations canceled evening meetings.

While kids enjoyed sleeping in or playing in the snow, drivers seemed to be taking it easy. State Police around the region reported few accidents Wednesday.

The snow was expected to continue overnight, with another one to three inches predicted by this morning.
