Community Calendar: March 15, 2013

The Press-Republican events calendar appears every Friday. Be sure submissions reach the Press-Republican newsroom at least one week before the calendar in which they need to appear. 

Items should be brief, listing the time, date, place, prices, a contact number and any other essential information.

On March 17, 1776, the British evacuated Boston after a months-long siege by the Continental Army. Evacuation Day commemorates that pivotal turning point in the early years of the American Revolution.

“Mountaineer and Author.” 7:30 p.m. Northwood School, Lake Placid. Fred Beckey is one of the world’s most prolific and accomplished climbers having made more first ascents than any other North American. He rose to prominence in the 1930s and at the age of 90 is still working the cliffs and mountains. He will show a collection of his best climbs in video and photographs. Following the talk, attendees are invited to stay for book signings or chat.  Admission: $10.

    Shayla Taylor was so far along in labor that her nurses at Moore Medical Center decided not to move her when Monday's tornado hit. They waited out the storm in an operating room, where the wall disappeared as the tornado hit the building.
