PERU — The Stewart’s Shop at 2997 Route 22 in Peru was held up just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
According to scanner broadcasts, a witness said a person whose face was obscured by something black held what looked like a 9mm handgun.
It was said police are looking for a black car with a spoiler that was traveling on Route 22 toward Route 22B.
Just before 11 p.m., Plattsburgh-based State Police confirmed the robbery took place but couldn’t yet provide a description of the suspect or further details.
That Stewart’s Shop was robbed by a person wielding a knife on Dec. 11, 2011.
An employee of the store activated a panic alarm to summon aid on that occasion; a scanner report Wednesday night said a 911 call was corroborated by an alarm set off at the shop.
Not many businesses in Peru are open after 10:30 p.m., but over on Bear Swamp Road, an employee at Maplefields said customers had told them about the robbery.
At press time, no further information was available.
