MORRISONVILLE — Emma and Grace Caton were among Clinton County Fair-goers maximizing their dad’s dollars on Wristband Day at the Clinton County Fair.
Bumper car was the choice ride for the Saranac sisters.
“The fair is fun,” Emma said. “What I like about the fair, it gets me away from the farm. No chores.”
“We go to this and the Franklin County Fair every year,” said David, their father. “We come for the rides and animals. We farm, so the kids love the animals. They were in 4-H. The last couple of years, we did our shift in the ice-cream booth.”
At Caton Acres Farm, the family raises pigs, sheep and chickens for sale at area farmers markets.
Connie Wells was among the grandparents enjoying the fair with granddaughters Logan Beach and Alexis Wells and daughter-in-law Stephanie Wells.
“We came for the rides and to eat,” Connie said. “We went on the merry-go-round. That’s the all-time favorite.
“We have a county fair in Franklin County,” she said. “My family was very active in 4-H and showing cattle. We spent a lot of time at the fair. My family had a food stand.
“This fair is a little bit different. As I get older, I don’t go to the fair as much.”
The aroma of cotton candy, fried dough and old-fashioned kettle corn beckoned, but 4-year-old Kole Greno was above it all and fearless as he cornered rails in the first car of the Western Mouse.
His proud grandmother Julie Belisle watched from a nearby bench.
“This is the first time we’ve been here,” said Julie, who lives in Swanton, Vt. “We go to the Essex County Fair, not every year.”
“Do you want to go on this ride?” said Julie, standing before a feed-sack slide.
“No, no,” said Kole, pulling her hand and pointing. “I want to go on that one.”
