MALONE — More than 200 cars will vie for cash and trophies in the first round of Demolition Derby action tonight at the Franklin County Fair.
Gates at the 162nd edition of the fair open at 8 a.m. with a variety of 4-H shows planned throughout the day.
Total Destruction Demotion Productions has taken over the popular Demolition Derby for the Agricultural Society Board of Directors this year and plans to “bring a little something different to the show,” said Steve Manciocchi, the company owner and president.
“And we’re going to have powder puffs, trucks and van heats,” he said, in addition to the traditional car classes.
This the first time Total Destruction will put on a show in Franklin County.
“It’s going to do well for us and helps us spread our horizons,” he said.
But the real success will be measured by how much the large crowds enjoy the show when they pack into the Coca-Cola grandstand, he said.
Admission to the show is $10.
Figure 8 four-cylinder-car heats start at 3 p.m., followed by at 5 p.m. by the elimination round of the Demolition Derby, sponsored by Adirondack Energy.
The derby finals, sponsored by Bailey Motor Co., are set for 6 p.m. Monday, and admission is $10.
The fair runs through Sunday, Aug. 12.
