Fort Covington woman charged in stabbing

FORT COVINGTON — A local woman is charged with stabbing her boyfriend during a fight.

Shortly after midnight Tuesday, New York State Police in Malone were sent to 2556 Chateaugay St. to help Fort Covington EMS with a man who was reported to have fallen out of bed.

Wayne J. Henault, 64, was found with a small puncture wound to his back and was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone for treatment, according to a press release.

At the hospital, it was discovered that the wound resulted from being stabbed, State Police said, and Henault was taken for emergency surgery.

He was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday night.

He and his live-in girlfriend, Joan F. Terrel, 64, were involved in a dispute when Terrel stabbed him with a knife, State Police said.

She was charged with first-degree assault and arraigned before Fort Covington Town Justice Clayton Almond.

Terrel was sent to Franklin County Jail after she didn’t post $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
