Local man charged with animal cruelty

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office arrested an AuSable Forks man last week after they say he allegedly abused and neglected cats.

Ricky D. Petrashune Sr., 60, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Deputies at about 11 a.m. on June 19 after they responded to call involving animal cruelty.

Deputy Leigh Wenske said upon arrival at the residence where Petrashune was a renter, they found skeletal remains of three kittens that appeared to have been at least two or three months old when they died.

Wenske said he later learned Petrashune had not been at the residence since February 29.

As workers were removing items from the property, he said they found a small kitten believed to be only a few weeks old living in a dresser drawer.

“One of the people there rescued it and took the kitten home,” Wenske added.

Following an investigation, it was determined that Petrashune left multiple cats in and around the residence without any food or water.

Wenske said no adult cats were found inside the home, but that there were at least 10 cats said to be residing outside that they were unable to locate.

Petrashune was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; and failing to provide proper sustenance, both misdemeanor charges.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Petrashune was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Blackbrook Court at a later date.

More information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
