Town of Chazy to flush hydrants
CHAZY — The Town of Chazy will be flushing water hydrants from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 16, 17 and 18.
Residents may have lower water pressure or discolored water during this time.

Dannemora Village Board working on budget
DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Village Board will be holding budget meetings on Feb. 22 and 24 and March 5 at 4 p.m. at the Village Office.
The meetings are open to all.
Clinton County Fair to award scholarships
MORRISONVILLE — The Clinton County Fair will award six $1,000 scholarships to New York state high school seniors and students enrolled in college who are pursuing a degree in a field related to agriculture, fair management or the outdoor amusement business.
The New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs and the New York State Showpeople's Association sponsor the scholarships.
The students must be active at the Clinton County Fair. Applications must be submitted through the Clinton County Fair by Friday, April 9.

Tax-exemptions due to towns by March 1
PLATTSBURGH — All property-tax-exemption renewals and new applications must be completed and filed with municipality assessors by March 1.
Exemptions that may require a renewal application every year include senior citizen 50 percent (65 years old or older), non-profit, limited income and disability and agricultural land.
Enhanced STAR (65 years or older) may require a renewal if owners do not file an income tax and are not signed up with the Income Verification Program.
Basic STAR, veteran exemptions and some others do not require a yearly renewal once applied for unless there is a change.

Sears, AMVETS collecting blankets for vets
PLATTSBURGH — Sears and AMVETS are asking for help in Operation Blanket, an initiative to provide homeless veterans with blankets.
People are asked to donate gently used blankets at any Sears store across the United States, including the store at Champlain Centre mall, through Feb. 18. In exchange, Sears will give a coupon for 20 percent off one home fashion or home decor item or 10 percent off one housewares, luggage or furniture item (excluding mattresses) for each blanket donated.
Sears Holdings Home Fashions Vice President and GMM Doug Wurl said the company is proud to work with AMVETS.
"Each year we challenge ourselves to find new ways to say thank you to the members of our military. This is yet another way we can show our appreciation and encourage participation from our customers," he said.
AMVETS National Commander Duane Miskulin thanked Sears for its participation.
"The harsh winter months are an especially difficult time for the homeless and each blanket we collect will help keep one veteran a little bit warmer."
Local bands wanted for Washington, D.C., parade
PLATTSBURGH — North Country Congressman William Owens is seeking local marching bands to perform in the national Independence Day Parade in the nation's capitol this summer.
The parade is on July 4 in Washington, D.C., before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people.
Owens (D-Plattsburgh) is asking any interested high schools to submit a letter detailing their band's accomplishments and why they should be chosen to: Rebecca Collins, 120 Washington St., Suite 200, Watertown, N.Y., 13601 by March 1.
Northern Adirondack plans budget workshops
ELLENBURG — The first in a series of Northern Adirondack Central School Board budget development meetings will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, in the District Office conference room.
Immediately following the budget session, the board will convene in an executive session to discuss the employment history of particular individuals and contract negotiations.
The board will reconvene for public session at 7:30 p.m. There will be a presentation by Principal Silver on Elementary School initiatives. Faye Fitzgerald will provide a briefing on the work study program.
Agenda items for the regular board meeting include adopting the school calendar for the 2010-11 school year, tenure appointments and nomination of an individual as a Champlain Valley Educational Services Board candidate.
The meeting is open to the public.
Rouses Point elections coming up
ROUSES POINT — Rouses Point village election will be held from noon to 9 p.m. March 16 at Halstead Hall at the Rouses Point Civic Center, 39 Lake St.
Up for vote are a two-year position for mayor and two two-year trustee positions.
Registration for the election will be from noon to 5 p.m. March 6 at the Village Office, 139 Lake St. People must be at least 18 years old to register, an American citizen and a Village resident for at least 30 days before the election.
