Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

Two local men hit lottery, including $5 million winner

TICONDEROGA — Two local men have hit the lottery, including the area's first million-dollar winner in years.

Michael Vice, a self-employed general contractor from Ticonderoga, has claimed a minimum of $5 million in an instant game prize, the Press-Republican has learned.

He will be presented with a ceremonial oversized prize check today at New York State Lottery Headquarters in Schenectady. Spokeswoman Yolanda Vega and New York Lottery Director Gordon Medenica will make the presentation of the Set for Life lottery prize.

Vice could not be reached Monday for comment; his home phone number has been disconnected.

The New York Lottery said Monday that Harry Todd Jr. of Altona won $79,597 in the Take Five drawing held on Feb. 27.

Todd purchased the winning ticket at the Brookside Grocery at 160 West Church St., West Chazy.

Todd told the New York Lottery that he plays Take Five because he likes the odds.

"I know the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are much bigger, but the odds of hitting Take 5 are much better.

"I checked the Lottery's Web site to see if my numbers came out that night. Needless to say, I am extremely happy they did."
