ACT seeks scholarship applications


LAKE PLACID — Adirondack Community Trust is accepting applications for a number of scholarships established to benefit students from this region.

PLANTE SCHOLARSHIP
The Dr. U. R. Plante Medical Scholarship awards an annual $10,000 scholarship to a student attending medical school who has lived in either the Adirondack Park or Clinton, Franklin, Essex, Hamilton or St. Lawrence counties for at least two years.

Grants are restricted to students studying to obtain an MD who are willing to return to the North Country or another rural area to practice medicine for two years.

MCCULLOUGH AWARD
The Sean McCullough Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Clinton or Essex counties with strong academic skills and competitive spirit who wishes to continue education at the college level.

It was established in 2005 in honor of Sean McCullough, a Plattsburgh High School student who died tragically on May 14, 2005.

Successful candidates are members of the track team nominated by his or her track coach for their leadership and dedication to the team.

BAR ASSOCIATION
The Essex County Bar Association Scholarship was established in 2005 to support the next generation of law professionals in Essex County.

Any full-time residents who are attending an accredited law school in the United States are eligible to apply for this $500 scholarship. Recipients may reapply annually.

SPECIFIC SCHOOLS
The Adirondack Community Trust also manages scholarships for specific schools:

•  The Julie Lamy Memorial Scholarship, for non-traditional students at North Country Community College.

•  The Lynn G. and Alice W. Palmer Scholarship, for graduates of Beekmantown Central School.

•  The William T. Lowe Scholarship and Jennifer Welch Memorial Scholarship, for graduating seniors of Plattsburgh City School District.

•  The Matamek Scholarship, for students from the Owls Head area graduating from Franklin Academy High School in Malone; and the Franklin Academy Class of 1967 Scholarship and the Craig T. Chisum Memorial Scholarships, for graduates of Franklin Academy.

•  The Alberta P. Moody Scholarship, the Patrick E. and Louise M. Quinn Scholarship, the Paul and Alice Grulich Memorial Scholarship, the Mary Cote Humanitarian Scholarship and the Pearle Ness Clements Scholarship, for students from Tupper Lake High School.

•  The Brian Muldowney Memorial Scholarship and the Howard V. Littell Scholarship, for Saranac Lake Central School graduating seniors.

•   The Frank Besau and Pauline Besau-Wamsganz Scholarship, for students from AuSable Valley Central School.

•  The Walter and Lois Thomas and Lyndon and Barbara Drake Scholarships, for Brushton-Moira Central School graduating seniors.

•  The Will Geiger Academic Scholarship, for Long Lake graduates.

•  The Lawrence Gorney Scholarship, for Willsboro Central School graduates.

•  The Nash Williams Scholarship, Alice Agnew Scholarship and Gerald K. Douglas Scholarship, for Lake Placid High School graduates.

•  The Wilmington Fire Department and Shawn Coarding Memorial Scholarship, for students from the Town of Wilmington attending either Lake Placid Central School or AuSable Valley Central School.
