Skating, skiing highlight carnival today

SARANAC LAKE — The Meineker Figure Skating Show marks its 25th year at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival tonight.

Here is what's coming up:

TODAY

6 p.m.: Torchlight Skiing, followed by fireworks, Mount Pisgah Ski Center.

7:30 p.m.: 25th-annual Meineker Figure Skating Show, Saranac Lake Civic Center. 891-4431.

10 p.m.: Music by Kung Fu, the Waterhole.

FRIDAY

10 a.m.: Adirondack Bank Innertube Races, Mount Pisgah.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: 23rd-annual Winter Book Sale, Saranac Lake Free Library, Cantwell Community Room, 109 Main St.

12:30 p.m.: NBT Bank Children's Skating Races, Saranac Lake Civic Center.

5 to 8 p.m.: Big Boss Sausage, Acoustic, Captain Cook's.

7:30 p.m.: Rotary Club Variety Show, Harrietstown Town Hall. $20 at the door.

8:15 p.m.: Firemen's Broomball, Saranac Lake Civic Center.

9 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Reflections classic rock, Captain Cook's.

10 p.m. to 2 a.m.: Karaoke, Romano's Saranac Lanes.

10 p.m.: Music by Stone Revival Band, The Waterhole.

SATURDAY

8:30 to 11 a.m.: Mason's Pancake Breakfast, Saranac Lake Adult Center, 136 Broadway. Sponsored by Whiteface Mountain Lodge 789 Masonic Temple.

8:30 to 9:30 a.m.: Breakfast at McDonald's restaurant with Grimace and carnival characters.

10 to 11 a.m., Meet the Carnival Characters, Ice Palace.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: 23rd-annual Winter Book Sale, Saranac Lake Free Library, Cantwell Community Room, 109 Main St.

10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Lions Club Chili Sale, Harrietstown Town Hall.

11 a.m.: Paul Smith's College Woodsmen's Exhibition. Riverside Park.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Paul Smith's College Alumni Reunion. Under the heated tent next to Sears and Nori's.

Noon: Parade Lineup, Lake Colby Drive.

1 p.m.: Gala parade. Along Broadway and Main Street from Ampersand Avenue to Lapan Highway. Band concert follows in Harrietstown Town Hall.

After the Parade: Music by Crow Party, The Waterhole.

7 p.m. Music by Black Fly Affair. Captain Cook's.

7 to 9 p.m. Michael Cooney on Irish Pipes with Curt and Kary Stager.

7:30 p.m.: "To Kill A Mockingbird," Pendragon Theatre. Call 891-9052 for reservations.

8 p.m.: Music by Backspin. Romano's Saranac Lanes.

8:30 p.m.: Music by Big Boss Sausage, Captain Cook's.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Joey Izzo on Piano, Left Bank Cafe.

Noon: Saranac Lake Teachers Association Kids X-C Ski Races, Dewey Mountain. 891-2697.

12:30 to 3 p.m.: Snowy Owl Face Painting for Children, Harrietstown Town Hall.

2 p.m.: Kiddie Parade from Saranac Lake Free Library to the Town Hall.

3 p.m.: 17th-annual Winter Carnival Baroque Concert, Methodist Church, donation, sponsored by the Saranac Lake Young Arts Association

7:30 p.m.: Cape Air Carnival Slide Show at the Ice Palace.

8 p.m.: Gala Fireworks Display at the Ice Palace.

10 p.m.: Music by Tim Herron & Eric McElveen, The Waterhole.

THURSDAY, FEB. 16

2 and 7:30 p.m.: Post-Carnival Cape Air Slide Show, Saranac Village at Will Rogers.
