REGIS FALLS —
ST.A St. Regis Falls man is facing fraud charges in an alleged workers' compensation scam.
Officials with the New York State Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau began looking into Kenneth R. Bullock's benefits after noticing that several of his claims were mailed with Florida postmarks.
After an extensive investigation, authorities this week arrested the 52-year-old, alleging that Bullock has collected about $39,000 in benefits while he was living and working in Florida.
Bullock had been receiving workers' compensation after suffering a back injury in the early 1990s while he worked as a truck driver.
But, officials said, Bullock had recently been working as a mechanic in Florida and continued to file for compensation benefits in New York.
The investigation reportedly consisted of surveillance that caught Bullock working despite his claims that he was physically unable to.
Bullock was processed on charges of insurance fraud, workers' compensation fraud and offering a false instrument for filing.
He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
The case is being handled in Onondaga County, the location of the Insurance Fraud office that processed Bullock's paperwork.
