PLATTSBURGH — A group of Plattsburgh State students are under investigation for allegedly severely beating a local man.
The students, who sources say are members of a fraternity, will likely face charges once Plattsburgh City Police Department completes its investigation.
The victim reportedly underwent hours of surgery after the assault, sources told the Press-Republican.
"A group of males assaulted a single male," City Police Chief Desmond Racicot confirmed Monday. "There were Plattsburgh State students involved with this issue."
The incident occurred sometime last week at a house on South Catherine Street, near the intersection with Broad Street.
"We are not disclosing the exact address," Racicot said. "At this point, it is under investigation."
Racicot said the victim was treated at CVPH Medical Center before being transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
"We cannot disclose the extent of the injuries."
Racicot said the motive of the altercation is under investigation.
Plattsburgh State officials said they were waiting for reports from City Police, and there may be a campus judicial review.
