Search continues in LP for missing man

LAKE PLACID — Police here are still searching for a man missing since early Sunday.

The effort has focused largely inside the village and around McKinley Street and Mill Pond Drive.

Seth A. Kilburn, 35, was last seen leaving Wise Guys, a bar downtown, at about 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Few details have emerged about where he went afterwards, on foot.

A full day of searching Monday drew assistance from forest rangers with the State Department of Environmental Conservation. But so far, they have turned up no sign of Kilburn, a lifelong resident.

He has two young children, said close family friend Joanie Grady on Tuesday.

She is acting as a spokesperson for Celeste and Tony Kilburn, Seth's parents.

Family and friends are aiding the search effort in conjunction with police, she said.

“State Police used their helicopter yesterday," she said, referring to Monday.

"Any eyes help, just looking around is a help. If you see anything that seems out of the ordinary, call us or call LPPD. We just want to find him. Police did have one possible lead that came in (Monday) night," she said. "And they are following up on that. We had probably 20 people out last night. Another friend walked up and down Mill Pond all day. Others went out to search based on the lead we got last night. We're asking, if anybody has seen him since first thing Sunday, please call police."

The Kilburn family is hopeful they will find Seth as the search continues, she said.

"We have not heard the next phase of search strategy. But village residents are keeping vigilant."

Kilburn lives on Mill Pond Drive, she said.

Police Chief Bill Moore was assessing search strategy with DEC Tuesday afternoon.

“The Lake Placid Police Department is requesting that all Lake Placid residents, especially those that live in the McKinley Street and Sentinel Road neighborhoods, to check their backyards, along with any out buildings in an effort to try and locate Seth. Thank you for the continued support with this investigation and keep spreading the word,” officials wrote on a Facebook post that has reached out to hundreds of people, including neighboring police departments.

A missing-person poster is being distributed throughout the region, but police have not yet called for volunteers to expand the search.

Kilburn is a white male with brown hair and eyes, is 5 foot 11 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a blue-and-white striped polo shirt and tan- or khaki-colored shorts. He also wears eyeglasses.

Anyone with information or who may have seen Kilburn is asked to call Lake Placid Police at 523-3306.
