PLATTSBURGH — Transportation will be the focus of the third series of community discussions sponsored by the Partnership for Community Development’s Vision2Action committee.
The series will start with a live roundtable discussion televised at 8 tonight on Mountain Lake PBS program “Mountain Lake Journal” about the future of transportation in Clinton County. The public is invited to participate in that event.
Next up are a series of presentations on various aspects of transportation in the county at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, 8 Museum Way (on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base), Plattsburgh.
It includes mass transit in Clinton County, shared-roadway efforts and past, present and future transportation methods.
There will also be a discussion of the upcoming Walk or Bike to Work Day, planned for July 25, and the website nybikerack.com, which will give details about the day that folks are encouraged to get to work without driving a ca, how to sponsor a bike rack and entering a bike-rack design contest.
Bruce Carlin, coordinator of the Vison2Action Transportation Task Force, said the forums will hear from a variety of transportation, public-health and planning professionals.
“It’s important to examine transportation and related opportunities in Clinton County and implement a focus on transportation issues,” he said in a press release. “Creating a dialogue between interested community organizations and individuals can lead to improved transportation and health.”
MASS TRANSIT DAY
Nine Platt Hospitality Group President Bob Smith, chair of the Partnership for Community Development, said people were encouraged to get out for more exercise during the recreation panel event in April.
“The upcoming discussion on transportation will highlight alternative forms of transportation that do exist and can be utilized to provide a better and healthier lifestyle,” he said.
In addition, July 28 has been designated Try Mass Transit Day. County residents are encouraged to ride a Clinton County Public Transit bus for free that day.

DESIGN BIKE RACKS
Submissions are sought for the Design A Bike Rack Contest in three age categories: 11 and younger, 12 through 17, and 18 or older.
Entries are due by Oct. 15, and winning designs will be built by businesses that sponsor a bike rack.

Previous Vision2Action discussions centered on how the arts impact the economic health and growth of the region and on recreational opportunities.
Education — Cradle to Career is set for Oct. 11.
The programs support goals that include bringing 3,000 new families to the region by 2040, building a welcoming environment for new families and promoting a sense of regional pride.
