PLATTSBURGH — Among the stories KayLeigh Deno and Dylan Raville will always remember from their wedding day will be how their cake was baked by “The Boss.”
The Plattsburgh couple’s cake came from Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., home of The Learning Channel’s popular reality show “Cake Boss” and famous baker Buddy Valastro.
Accompanied by family members, Deno and Raville traveled to the bakery in March, when they designed the three-tiered marble cake.
Deno said the cake was a gift from John and Kerry Hynes, Raville’s aunt and uncle.
“(Kerry) wanted to give us the cake as a present,” Deno said.
She said they decided on a beach-themed cake after looking at different options during their visit to the famous bakery.
“It was neat because where we were sitting you could see in the kitchen,” Deno added.
While there was no sign of Valastro, the family met with Valastro’s brother-in-law, Mauro Castano, who provided them with samples of delicious cake options and discussed different ideas for the couple’s special day.
“He brought a sample plate of all of the kinds of cake, and we got to try everything,” Deno said a few days before her wedding on Saturday. “It was really fun.”
The cake would be delivered to the West Side Ballroom in Plattsburgh at noon, just an hour and a half before the wedding, which was to take place on Cumberland Head.
So the couple wouldn’t see it until the reception, and Deno was anxiously waiting to see what the finished product looked like.
“I can’t wait. We are very excited.”
