Community Outreach Day to be held

PLATTSBURGH — The first-ever Community Outreach Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Center gym on U.S. Oval.

More than 30 community programs will be available to share information and services, according to Marshia DeSorcie, a licensed social worker from the CV-TEC Family Welcome Center who has been planning the event.

Many free items will be available, including clothing for children and adults, and demonstrations and raffles are planned.

The event will connect people with resources in the community, including low-cost health insurance, nutrition, family health, cancer screening, blood-pressure screening, HEAP, public transportation, financial stability, tax preparation and children's programs. Refreshments will be served.

The Community Outreach Day is sponsored by CV-TEC Family Welcome Center and OneWorkSource.

Shayla Taylor was so far along in labor that her nurses at Moore Medical Center decided not to move her when Monday's tornado hit. They waited out the storm in an operating room, where the wall disappeared as the tornado hit the building.
