NCCC students develop new potato chips

SARANAC LAKE — A new kind of potato chips reflects local tastes and uses local ingredients.

Sustain Adirondack, a potato-chip company based in Malone that produces Sustain brand products, will launch Maple Crisp Potato Chips and give samples out during the lunch hour today in the dining hall at the Saranac Lake campus of North Country Community College.

On Friday, samples will be given out between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Student Center in Malone.

The chips go on sale at local stores in December, said Andy McKee, associate professor of business and the interim academic coordinator at the Malone site.

Maple Crisp Chips were developed by NCCC marketing students from classes in Malone and Saranac Lake taught by Jennifer Hesseltine and Larry McFaddin, respectively.

Students studied the market opportunity for a new product, developed it and created the accompanying marketing plan.

The chips are made with Adirondack Red potatoes grown at Tucker Farms in Gabriels.
