It's Clinton County Fair time again

MORRISONVILLE — The 2011 Clinton County Fair opens today, with a discounted admission price and free rides from noon to 1 p.m.

Gate admission today is $2 per person, 4 years of age and older. Visitors are asked to bring in one nonperishable food item for local food shelves.

Today is Press-Republican Day at the fair, so the first 4,000 visitors get a free copy of the newspaper.

Grandstand admission is $5 for tonight's show, "Hotel California," set for 8 p.m., sponsored by Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, WIRY Hometown Radio, TD Bank & Roberts Sport Center; with Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers Car Show.

4-H, FFA, cattle and horse exhibits; domestic and fine-arts exhibits are open every day.

Here's today's schedule:

▶ 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Vendor buildings are open.

▶ 8 a.m. 4-H sheep show.

▶ 9 a.m. 4-H horse show (begins in horse arena).

▶ 11 a.m. 4-H dog show at the North Country Squares building.

▶ Noon to 9 p.m. 4-H Dairy Bar Open.

▶ Noon to 2 p.m. Lita Kelly in the Stewart's Shop Gazebo.

▶ 1 p.m. 4-H driving classes.

▶ 1:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Lumberjack Show, sponsored by Walmart.

▶ 1:30 p.m. Clinton County Canine Club "Meet the Breeds" at the North Country Squares building.

▶ 2, 4 and 7 p.m. Pipsqueaks Party Time Clown Show, sponsored by Price Chopper, at the Children's Stage.

▶ 2, 5 and 7 p.m. Masters of the Chain Saw Sculptors, sponsored by Key R-D Trailer Sales and Tammy Perrotte-Sears of Remax North Country.

▶ 3 to 5 p.m. Cumberland Bay Barber Shoppers & Friends, at the Curtis Lumber Stage.

▶ 3, 6 and 8 p.m. Buffalo Barfield's "Unherd-of-Entertainment" (family show), sponsored by Bath Fitter.

▶ 4 p.m. Crepe-Eating Contest at Amier's Kabob Restaurant (next to B&B Saloon) $5 entry fee, first-place $50 cash; second-place $25 cash; plus free ice cream for both winners the rest of fair week.

▶ 6 p.m. Opening ceremonies, with Summer Gillespie singing the national anthem and the Barbershoppers singing the Canadian anthem at the Stewart's Shop Gazebo, sponsored by LaBarge Agency.

▶ 6 p.m. Sheep and goat show (in the goat and sheep barn).

▶ 7:30 p.m. North Country's Got Talent qualifying round at the Curtis Lumber Stage with Mike & Sally Karaoke "R" Us. Qualifiers will go on to Thursday night's Finale Show. Sponsored by Pepsi, 97.5 Eagle Country Radio, Kneucraft Fine Jewelry, Cumberland 12 Cinemas & Reithoffer Shows Inc. (No bands allowed).

▶ 8 p.m. Coin Hunt in the Sawdust Pile, sponsored by Adirondack Bank; UFirst Federal Credit Union, GP Community Federal Credit Union, Dannemora Federal Credit Union, TD Bank and Peru Central School Federal Credit Union ($100 added each day).

▶ 8 p.m. "Hotel California." A tribute to the Eagles sponsored by Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, WIRY Hometown Radio, Roberts Sport Center and TD Bank on the Casella Waste Management Stage at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Grandstands, with Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers Car Show
