PLATTSBURGH — A Saranac man was recently ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to workers' compensation and insurance fraud.
Donald R. Velie Jr., 43, was charged last August with two counts of first-degree perjury, third-degree grand larceny, three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, and workers' compensation fraudulent practices.
According to a press release from the Clinton County District Attorney's Office, the charges were based on allegations that Velie, a correction officer at Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility, was receiving workers' compensation benefits while he continued work as a private contractor.
Velie neglected to report that to his employer or insurance carrier.
He pleaded guilty to workers' compensation fraudulent practices on Tuesday and was ordered to pay $7,408.98 in restitution to the New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Velie also had to sign an order forfeiture agreement preventing him from any further compensation associated with the claim.
