92-year-old killed in car accident Saturday morning

LAKE CLEAR — A Lake Clear man was killed in a two-car accident on State Route 30 Saturday morning.

According to a police report, William F. Martin, 92, pulled his 2010 Dodge Journey out of the Lake Clear post office parking lot, located at 6739 State Route 30, into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Tucker R. Houghton, 20, of Vermontville at about 8:57 a.m.

Houghton was traveling west on Route 30 towing a 16-foot Monarch fishing boat and trailer.

According to the police report, Houghton was unable to avoid Martin’s SUV and struck it on the driver’s side, causing “heavy damage.”

Martin was taken by ambulance to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Adam Abodeely at 9:53 a.m.

Houghton and a female passenger refused medical treatment but later drove to Adirondack Medical Center by private vehicle and were treated and released for minor injuries.

An autopsy performed by Dr. C. Francis Varga on Martin at Adirondack Medical Center Saturday determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma from a motor vehicle accident.

The manner of death is pending a ruling by Franklin County Coroner Ronald Keough.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
