SARANAC LAKE — Sewer-system replacement work is scheduled to begin at two locations here soon.
It is part of yet another infrastructure project being tackled in Saranac Lake this summer.
The Old Lake Colby sanitary sewer line will be upgraded as part of a Department of Environmental Conservation order of consent issued in 2010.
Saranac Lake Village Manager John Sweeney said that, thus far, progress on all infrastructure projects has remained steady.
“The next step is sanitary sewer replacement. Work will begin in approximately two weeks on the rehabilitation of the Lower Dorsey Street sanitary sewer main between Church Street and Woodruff Street along the Saranac River,” he said Tuesday.
Church Street and Woodruff carry traffic around Main Street toward Bloomingdale Avenue to points north.
Minor delays should be expected in that area, Sweeney advised.
About the same time, crews will begin to tear up sewer lines on Old Lake Colby Road.
“The Old Lake Colby Road sanitary-sewer-replacement project is tentatively scheduled to begin on July 16,” Sweeney said.
“Crews will begin milling and digging at the village (boundary) line and work toward Broadway. The project is scheduled for completion on September 3. During the project, Old Lake Colby Road will be open to local traffic and emergency traffic only.”
MORE SIDEWALK WORK
The sewer-line replacement are in addition to the $12.5 million water-system update that got under way last year.
And, Sweeney said, the first three phases of sidewalk replacement are finished.
“The only thing that hasn’t been done is paving on St. Bernard’s Street,” he said in an interview.
Village officials are looking to coordinate the final roadway repaving needed from water-system updates and sidewalk repairs.
“Contractors will be repaving Park Avenue from the American Management Association gate to Old Military Road; Old Military Road and Grove Street this week,” Sweeney said of the schedule due to start.
Additional sidewalk-replacement projects will be scheduled this summer.
