SCHROON — A man faces a felony charge after alleged sexual contact with a 7-year-old girl.
Schroon Lake-based State Police reported Kevin C. Smurphat, 21, of Fort Ann allegedly had sexual contact with the girl Saturday night and was arrested shortly after midnight. He is charged with first-degree sexual abuse involving contact with someone under 11 years of age, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Smurphat was arraigned before Schroon Lake Town Justice Jean Strothenke and remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond. He is to reappear in Schroon Town Court at 2 p.m. July 22.
