Kelly Broadwell of Peru, daughter of Stephen and Susan Broadwell, Bachelor of Arts/School of Humanities and Sciences; Matthew Smith of Tupper Lake, son of Alice Smith, Bachelor of Fine Arts/Roy H. Park School of Communications; Katelyn Walter of North Bangor, daughter of Paula Walter, Bachelor of Science/Health Sciences and Human Performances; Kimberly LaReau of Peru, daughter of Shirley LaReau, Bachelor of Arts/School of Humanities and Sciences.
Eric Christopher Schmitt of Peru earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Lyndon State College in Lyndon Center, Vt.
Timothy A. Bortnick, son of Jeannette and Edward Bortnick of Peru, received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma. A 1990 graduate of AuSable Valley Central School, he also earned a bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport.
Yohanna Briscoe, daughter of Michael A. Briscoe and Lisa Brisco of Plattsburgh, graduated from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. She majored in Black Studies.
Hannah E. Spinner of West Chazy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pa. She is the daughter of Darrell and Jean Spinner and a graduate of Beekmantown Central School.
Spinner graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors. She plans to attend pharmacy school.
Stacey Mace, daughter of Sue and Rod Mace of Mineville, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Siena College in Loudonville.
She also earned the distinction of graduating cum laude and an Honors Fellow for which she completed an Honors Program Theses, "An Analysis of Money Laundering Use: A Case Study of Transnational Criminal Organization Activities." She was also recognized as a member of the 21st Century Leaders Society.
Mace, a graduate of Moriah Central School, will now pursue her master's degree in accounting from Siena.
Abby Graves of Plattsburgh earned a Master of Education in Special Education from Lesley University, Cambridge, Mass.
Three local residents earned degrees from SUNY Delhi:
Albert Clark of Peru graduated with an Associates in Applied Science in Architectural Technology; Justin Ooms of Constable, summa cum laude, Associates in Applied Science in Construction Technology, dean's list; Michael Polhemus of Plattsburgh, Associates in Occupational Studies/Carpentry and Building Trades.
Mary Elizabeth Miller of Morrisonville received a doctor of medicine degree from the College of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. She had previously earned an undergraduate degree from Siena College.
Kathryn LaForest of Saranac, daughter of Henry and Vicky LaForest, has been named a Faculty Scholar in Sociology at Hartwick College, Oneonta. Faculty Scholars have excellent academic records and have demonstrated an outstanding mastery of their respective disciplines.
LaForest, a graduate of Saranac Central School, is majoring in sociology. She participated in Honors Program, Ballroom Dance Club, Fencing Club and Newman Club.
Lynn Leach of Chateaugay has been awarded the Valedictorian Honor Scholarship by Elmira College.
Elmira College has the longest-running valedictorian and salutatorian honor scholarship program in the nation, awarding full-tuition scholarships to prepatory and high school valedictorians and salutatorians.
Two local residents took part in internships this summer through SUNY Oswego's Experience-Based Education Program. They are Kayla A. Malmgren of Plattsburgh, a junior biology major, at One Step Ahead Physical Therapy, Plattsburgh; and Kelsey M. Deso of Rouses Point, a senior accounting major at Transfer Services on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Kasey Rabideau of Plattsburgh has joined Teach for America, the national corps of top college graduates who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools in low-income communities.
Rabideau is a 2004 graduate of Plattsburgh High School, a 2008 graduate of the University at Albany, and will teach in Memphis this fall.
Alyssa Malone, daughter of Daniel and Josephine Malone of Plattsburgh, will be venturing from home this fall as she carries out a study-abroad independent research project in Cusco, Peru.
A student at St. Michael's College, Colchester, Vt., she is a double major in political science and Spanish, with a minor in journalism.
Cassandra Jones and Michelle Plante, both of Lewis, have received 2010 Health Career Scholarships.
Jones will be entering the biology program with a focus on pre-med at St. Lawrence University, Canton. Plante will enter the nursing program at Clinton Community College, Plattsburgh.
Katelyn Molzan of Plattsburgh has been named to the president's list at SUNY Cortland. She is a graduate of Peru Central School and is majoring in biomedical science.
