Body likely missing Fort Covington man

Winthrop man charged with murder

NORFOLK — Human remains believed to be those of a missing Fort Covington man were found buried near a Grantville Road home, and a Winthrop man has been charged with murder.

Jason M. Wing, 21, of Fort Covington was reported missing Nov. 17, 2010, and last seen alive that summer, said Troop B Bureau of Criminal Investigation Capt. Robert LaFountain.

Dustin J. Trimm, 37, of Brookdale Road, Winthrop was charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with Wing's disappearance.

He was arraigned before Norfolk Town Justice George Grubee, taken to St. Lawrence County Jail in Canton and is being held without bail, pending grand-jury action.

"I can confirm that human remains were found on this premises," said LaFountain, standing in front of 281 Grantville Road at about 4 p.m. Thursday in 25-degree weather.

"As the investigation continued, we suspected foul play," he said.

He declined to identify the owner of the property on which the body was found, but said 10 to 15 State Police members, including those with the Troop B Violent Crimes Investigation Team, were processing the area.

DEEP IN WOODS

The police personnel could not be clearly seen from the roadway since the search area is several hundred yards into the woods.

"It's hard work," LaFountain said of the evidence gathering. "The ground is frozen, and there was groundwater there," where the body was found.

"The coroner has been contacted and ordered the body removed," the captain said. "We expect an autopsy to be performed."

That would mostly likely happen today, he said.

He would not comment on the manner of death or any weapon that may have been involved.

'WERE FRIENDS'

A search warrant was executed at Trimm's home on Brookdale Road in Winthrop several miles from where the body was found, but LaFountain would not say what Trimm's connection to the Grantville Road property was.

He said the two men "were friends. They knew each other" but declined to elaborate.

Wing, who was also known as Jay and JJ, stood 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 165 pounds. He had a pierced lip and tongue and several tattoos, including some that read 'one chance,' 'one life,' 'fear', 'hate', 'Jason' and 'Chicks.'

He was last seen by his family in the Hopkinton area in August 2010 and contacted someone by cellphone in September of that year, but he had not been heard from since, according to a report on a State Police website.

Police followed leads in the case for more than a year before they arrested Trimm without incident on the road outside his home.
